Using a Proxy Server on DroidDesk Devices

Learn whether proxy servers can be used on DroidDesk devices, why we generally do not recommend them, and how to use a proxy safely inside Kiwi Browser.

We generally do not recommend using a proxy server with DroidDesk devices.

One of the main advantages of using a real phone is that it works through its own native network connection — Wi-Fi, LTE, or 5G.

When a proxy is added, this benefit may be reduced because browser or app traffic may no longer go directly through the phone's original network environment.

Why proxy usage is not recommended

Using a proxy may affect:

  • connection speed;
  • remote control latency;
  • session stability;
  • website loading speed;
  • app behavior;
  • device availability.

If the device traffic is routed through a proxy server, remote control may feel slower or less stable. For more information about latency-related issues, see Slow Connection or Input Delay.

Depending on the proxy configuration, the device may also become inaccessible if the proxy connection fails, becomes unstable, or is configured incorrectly.

Why native phone connection matters

DroidDesk devices are real Android smartphones hosted in real locations.

They can use real Wi-Fi, LTE, or 5G connections.

This is one of the main reasons users choose DroidDesk instead of emulators or virtual devices. To learn more about what each plan includes, see Available Plans and Features.

If you use a proxy, some websites or services may see the proxy IP instead of the phone's native network IP.

This may change the behavior of websites, apps, location checks, or network-based tests.

When a proxy may be useful

A proxy may be useful if you need to test how a website or browser session behaves through a specific IP, region, or network route.

For example, you may want to test:

  • website loading from a specific proxy location;
  • browser behavior through a custom IP;
  • regional content display;
  • proxy-based browser workflows.

However, please remember that this adds an extra network layer and may reduce the value of using the phone's native connection.

Recommended method: Kiwi Browser extension

If you still need to use a proxy, the recommended method is to use it only inside Kiwi Browser.

Kiwi Browser supports Chrome extensions, so you can install a proxy extension and configure your proxy inside the browser.

This way, only browser traffic goes through the proxy, while the device itself remains more stable.

This is usually safer than changing proxy settings for the entire Android system.

How to use a proxy in Kiwi Browser

  1. Open Kiwi Browser on the rented device.
  2. Go to the Chrome Web Store.
  3. Install a trusted proxy extension.
  4. Open the extension settings.
  5. Enter your proxy details.
  6. Test the connection inside Kiwi Browser.
  7. If pages do not load or the session becomes unstable, disable the proxy extension.
DroidDesk does not provide proxy servers. You need to use your own proxy provider.

What we do not recommend

We do not recommend:

  • changing system-wide Android proxy settings;
  • using unstable or slow proxies;
  • using free or unknown proxy providers;
  • routing the entire device connection through a proxy;
  • changing network settings if you are not sure how to restore them;
  • using a proxy that may disconnect the device from the internet.

System-level proxy configuration may affect the device connection and can make the device harder to access remotely.

Important

DroidDesk does not guarantee stable device performance when a proxy server is used.

If the device becomes slow, unstable, or unavailable after proxy setup, disable the proxy and try again.

If you cannot restore the connection, contact support.

When to contact support

Contact support if:

  • the device became unavailable after proxy setup;
  • the connection became very slow;
  • websites stopped loading;
  • you cannot disable the proxy;
  • remote control became unstable.

Please send:

  • Device ID;
  • RustDesk ID;
  • proxy extension name;
  • screenshot of the issue;
  • short description of what happened.

See Contact Support for all available support channels.

FAQ

Can I use a proxy on a DroidDesk device?

Yes, but we generally do not recommend it.

Why does DroidDesk not recommend proxy usage?

Because a proxy may reduce speed, increase latency, affect session stability, and reduce the benefit of using a real phone with its native network connection.

What is the safest way to use a proxy?

The safest option is to use a proxy extension inside Kiwi Browser.

Can I use a proxy for the entire phone?

We do not recommend changing system-wide Android proxy settings because it may affect remote access and device availability.

Does DroidDesk provide proxy servers?

No. DroidDesk does not provide proxy servers. You need to use your own proxy provider.

Will a proxy affect the phone's native IP?

Yes. If browser or app traffic goes through a proxy, websites may see the proxy IP instead of the phone's native Wi-Fi, LTE, or 5G IP.

What should I do if the device becomes unstable after proxy setup?

Disable the proxy extension or proxy settings. If the device is still unavailable, contact support with Device ID, RustDesk ID, screenshot, and a short description.
